Abstract:

T hetreatmentoflocal oral diseases is one of the most complicated problemsfacing dental patrician, Maintaining ofa sufficient salivary concentration of local drugs seems to be a very difficult task because of the constant oral salivary flow. Mucoadhesive tablet is a revolutionary pharmaceutical form that when adhered to the oral mucosa-can guarantee a local and in tissue delivery of the active substance, these tablets are attached to the oral mucosa ensuring a sustained release of locally administered drug and maintaining the salivary concentration on its therapeutic level. Thus it can find its application in several dental treatments (surgery, orthodontics, and periodontics) Other important application of the mucoadhesive tablets the transmucosal administration of drugs, this administration way is very beneficial since the drug is rapidly distributed in the blood circulation and can be a non-invasive alternative to all injected forms of drugs. The aim of this presentation is to present the development of twomucoadhesive tablets (antifungal miconazole tablets, and anaesthetic lidocaine tablet), and discuss different aspect of the application of this innovative pharmaceutical form in oral and general health

Biography :

Abou-Rabii has received his Ph.D. in Dental Pharmacology from Auvergne University (France) in 2004. He obtained his Master of Research in Biology and Medicine from Joseph Fourier University in France in 1998. And and his postgraduate Diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1993. Dr Abou-Rabii has is the course director of the MSc in Implant Dentistry in Warwick University in UK, he is leading multiple researches and has published several papers. He is a fellow of The Academy for Dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE) and the Vice President of the PTT group in the International Association of Dental Research (IADR
