Abstract:

To assess knowledge, attitude and practice of Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) monitoring among medicalclinicians/interns in AVBRH, Sawangi, Wardha, Maharashtra. A questionnaire based study was carried out at AVBRH, Sawangi among 140 prescribers comprising interns(n=80) and residents(n=60) and their responses were compared. Results : Knowledge about definition of ADR, severity and types of ADR was found to be poor in both the groups. Awareness about National Pharmacovigilance Programme and where to report ADR in residents was 60% and 70% respectively as compared to interns 12.5% and 30% respectively. Practice of taking medicinal history and keeping ADR case records were noted in both the groups. Most prominent source of New drug information in residents was medical representatives while in interns was the medical books/journals and internet. Willingness in participating in National Pharmacovigilance Programme was seen in both the groups by conducting seminars, panel discussion. Conclusion : The Knowledge and the practices were comparable in both the groups, but requires further improvement. Attitude toward ADR monitoring showed a negative trend in interns. This leads to a conclusion that Pharmacolvigilance needs to be incorporated in the Under graduation course (IInd MBBS) to create an awareness among our future doctors.
