Abstract:

Service sector is rising and contributing significantly in GDP of Indian economy. In this service sector demand for healthcare services is rising. According to a recent report of Indian brand equity foundation, healthcare services have become one of India's largest sectors both in terms of revenue and employment. The report also suggests that Indian healthcare sector will likely grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23% and to touch USD 280 billion by 2020. However, in absence of adequate management integration these services are unable to cater the needs of Indian population especially in small cities and rural areas. With these backdrops the present study explores underlying management issues in Indian healthcare systems. By taking primary healthcare centres in sample the study documents some findings which signifies the dire need of management approach in healthcare services at all possible levels. As the study is confined to a single district (Hardoi) of Uttar Pradesh, India, it cannot be generalized and thereby requires further validations at a broader level in terms of geographical boundaries and types of healthcare organizations. Nonetheless, inspite of these limitations we strongly believe that the present study will open new vistas for healthcare executives, policy makers, academicians and eventually healthcare researchers.
