Abstract:

Over 2.4 million military service members deployed overseas in support of military operations as part of the global war on terror (GWOT). As these veterans return home, society must address one of the least discernible consequences of US global involvement in various conflicts???the psychological effects of war on military men and women. The present study seeks to address shortcomings in veterans??? healthcare by investigating underutilization of VA healthcare services from the vantage point of veterans. It is believed by working directly with veterans, through a focus group, the study can identify underlying themes and concerns regarding underutilization of VA healthcare services and therefore identify opportunities to address the psychological and mental health needs of military veterans and service members.
