Evaluation of pre and post emergence herbicides in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Abstract:

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2011-12 at Research farm, Agronomy Department, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani to evaluate of pre and post emergence herbicides in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). Results revealed that, weed free treatment recorded significantly lowest dry weed weight and highest weed control efficiency, grain yield, straw yield and biological yield. Among the herbicides tried, application of Pendimethalin (PE) @ 0.75 a.i. kg ha-1 recorded significantly higher plant height, number of branches, dry matter accumulation, number of pods, number of seeds, grain yield , straw yield, weed control efficiency and highest net monetary returns and B:C ratio and found most economical and effective in controlling weeds and increasing the yield of chickpea.

Prashant Kumar Jadhav is presently acting as PhD Research Scholar, Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidhyapeeth, Parbhani of state Maharashtra in India. He has published abstracts/articles at national level seminars & journals in India. His future plan is to complete Doctorate & Post doctoral Fellow Programme from International /National Institution in India & Abroad. Being an optimistic & social activist to make reformation in Agriculture, rural And Developmental sector.
