Abstract:

Good pharmacy practice (GPP) is the heart of pharmacy profession; indeed it is the very essence of the profession. GPP is the practice of pharmacy that responds to the needs of the people who use the pharmacist?s services to provide optimal, evidence-based care. To support this practice it is essential that there be an established national frame work of quality standards and guidelines. The aim of the current 06 months prospective observational study was to use an indicator based tool to assess and report on Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) in the community pharmacies in South India and also assess the availability and use of a prescribing recording system, degree of computerization and implementation of stock management and re-order system, assess the cleanliness of the dispensing and storage area, pharmacy hygiene, storage conditions, system and practices. The tool used in our study comprises of system indicator, storage indicator, services indicator, dispensing indicator, rational indicator. Result found to be system indicators possible score 3.86, actual score 0.72 but possible max score 5 where storage finds that possible score 4.53, actual score 3.52 but possible max score 7 where as service indicators possible score 3.57, actual score 1.25 but possible max score 6 where as dispensing indicators possible score 4.23, actual score 2.50 but possible max score 8. Rational indicator possible score 3.75, actual score 1.35 but possible max score 8. In conclusion, the tool used in our study provides easy and reliable way to improve the use of medications.

Biography :

Prathima V received her degree in Bachelor of Pharmacy from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Ananthapuramu (JNTUA) in the year of 2012. Currently, she is pursuing Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Post Baccalaureate degree in Raghavendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (RIPER), Anantapuramu, Andhra Pradesh. To her credit she has presented nearly 03 papers in both national and international conferences.
