To compare the efficacy of Reciproc blue ® and Reciproc® and ProTaper gold ® in the removal of root filling materials. 60 extracted single rooted teeth were cleaned with ultrasonic scaler and washed with saline sterile solution. Pre-operative mesio-distal and bucco-lingual radiograph were taken to verify the presence of a single straight canal. An electric motor (X Smart Plus, Dentsply Maillefer) was used. After shaping the canals and filling with lateral condensation of gutta-percha, the access cavity was sealed with temporary dressing. After 30 days of storage in 37 degrees celcius Reciproc blue ®, Reciproc® and Protaper gold ® were used to retrieve the filing material and reaching the working length with the final instrument diameter for both Reciproc blue ® Reciproc® and Protaper gold ® (F2 for ProTaper gold). A total volume of 20 ml of 5% sodium hypochlorite was used as an irrigant for each tooth during the canal repreparation. Each instrument was discarded after use in five canals. Removal of filling materials was judged complete when the working-length was reached and no more gutta-percha could be seen on the last instrument used; the time in seconds was recorded. All the teeth were grooved bucco-lingually with a diamond disk and sectioned longitudinally. Both halves of the root canal were photographed under dental operating microscope at 40 times magnification. The photographs of the samples obtained were captured as JPEG images. The remaining gutta-percha and sealer on the split halves were measured by computerized program for data analysis (AutoCAD). edmondkoyess@gmail.com
