Abstract:

An exploratory research design was used to study the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) on adults, whose were indulging in obsessive compulsion disorder. 50 total numbers of participants were taken to population by applying purposive sampling technique. There was equal representation of both sexes, male and female in acquire study. The institutes from which data was collected were Hazara division, District Headquarter Hospital Haripur, Well fair Yahiya Hospital Haripur, Sadia Hospital, Ayub Medical Complex and Dr. Zafer Psychiatry clinic. Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) was used to measure the anxiety in bipolar disorder patients after intervention. Duration of research was one and half year from 1st Jan 2014 to July 2015. According to hypothesized cognitive behavioral therapy, it will reduce the anxiety in bipolar disorder patients. There will be more anxiety in in bipolar disorder male patients as compare to bipolar disorder female patients. CBT will more efficient therapy on bipolar disorder patients than other therapies. For analysis purpose, t test, Pearson�??s co-relation and two-way ANOVA were used. High level of anxiety in bipolar disorder female patients was observed in comparison to bipolar disorder male patients. Study results showed, low level of anxiety in patients who were getting the CBT by the psychologist, in comparison to those patients who were not getting the CBT intervention by their psychologist. The observed cognitive behavioral therapy was effective for reducing the anxiety in adults in bipolar disorder patients than any other psycho therapy. There was significant difference in level of anxiety among males and females in bipolar disorder patients p<.05. It was concluded that cognitive behavioral therapy was more suitable intervention for reducing the anxiety level in bipolar disorder patients, particularly in adults. The findings of this study were beneficial for clinical psychology, health psychology, counseling psychology and community psychology. Anxiety can be reduced in obsessive compulsion disordered patients by bringing up positive changes in their cognation and by involving them in constructive activities of life.
