Abstract:

Among the thirty five bacterial isolates isolated from the intestine of freshwater fish Cyprinuscarpio (Linnaeus), bacteriocin producer Enterococcus gallinarum showed inhibitory activity against various Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. In current research work, one potential bacteria Enterococcus gallinarum as bacteriocin producer was examined using agar well diffusion assay and identified on the basis of phenotypic and genotypic study. The effect at different pH (pH 2 to 12) and detergents (Tween 20, Tween 80, Triton-x 100, SDS, Urea and EDTA) on bacteriocin activity of Enterococcus gallinarum against Staphylococcus aureus was examined.
