Abstract:

Catalysis is the key enabling technology to clean energy sources and a sustainable chemical industry. This discipline is now becoming design driven and this shift has been greatly facilitated by the availability of new synthetic methods and increasingly powerful characterization, evaluation and theoretical tools which cover different time and length scales. In this talk, I will present my journey on the design of novel, active, stable and selective single-site catalysts for reactions of high importance for the synthesis of food, fuels, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals. The talk will also illustrate how the intellectual growth in the understanding of a catalyzed process can prompt technological advancements.
