Abstract:

There are a number of publications on the work up of the edematous patient. Many of these, while very informative and educational, leave the clinician taking care of a patient, still uncertain exactly how to proceed. What is presented herein is a concise and actionable evidenced base comprehensive algorithm for history, physical exam, laboratory workup, studies, and recommended treatment, of edematous patients. The goal is to provide a more simple and actionable clinical approach to help clinicians take better care of their patients. This algorithm is broken up into clinical sections so to be easy to read and utilize during care or work up of edematous patients. It can be provided in paper or electronic algorithm that is accessible to clinicians everywhere.

Biography :

Wade Farrow, MD is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician and Lymphedema Specialist. He has over 20 years of experience in wound care, lymphedema, and hyperbaric medicine. Dr. Farrow is also an engineer active in medical device development. He is co-inventor of the Jobst FarrowWrap, and has 13 issued US patents and more pending. He previously served as U.S. Medical Director and Vice President of Wound Care for BSN medical Inc., and was a board member of the National Lymphedema Network (NLN) for over 10 years and the chairman for 2 of those years. Dr. Farrow lives with his wife and two children in Charlotte, NC. He is president of Farrow Consulting. He enjoys tennis, hiking, skiing, guitar, and piano in his free time.
