Abstract:

Obesity is one of the most important problems of our decade. This problem leads to many metabolic problems as well as psychiatric comorbidities. Therefore, it is important to apply date appropriate treatment protocols. It is a group work, including endocrinologist, gastric surgeon, dietitian and psychologist. Judith Beck, who is a well-known therapist and supervisor, improved a weight loss program depending on cognitive behavioral techniques. Based on her protocol, I continue group therapies. I had to make some modifications regarding the cultural differences. Basically, the program teaches how to keep up with any healthy diet program and how to lose weight and stay in the same weight for long time. By this program, the attendee will learn: how to discriminate psychological hunger from psychical hunger; how to manage psychological hunger, cravings and desire to eat; how to handle feelings such as sadness, shame and anger in a way that would not end up with eating; how to think, feel and behave to keep on your diet at special dates such as parties, birthdays, travels; how to motivate yourself every day so you can keep on; how to say no to food pushers, cravings and eating desires so you can make your no muscle stronger; how to learn a set of skills one by one and proceed after he/she mastered on one skill.
