Abstract:

Objective: To align with Singapore Government??s vision to promote itself as a smart nation and to reduce overall cost involved in cash management. Methodology: Partnered with local bank to introduce digital payment methods for bill payment. This includes payment via internet banking, mobile banking and mobile payment application. The upgraded nets and credit card terminals to unified point of sale (UPOS) terminal. It includes functions such as contactless payment and QR code payment that will speed up the transaction time. They collaborated with local banks and vendors/merchants to provide incentives for customers to use noncash payment mode for paying hospital bills. Put up publicity materials to educate the public on cashless payment method. Cashiers were trained and scripts were provided to promote cashless payments. A roadmap has developed to transit all clinics and specialty centers to go cashless by end August 2018. Only a few locations were identified in KKH to collect cash payments. Results: Reduce overall cash transactions in the hospital. Improve customers?? experiences and satisfaction by providing more options and greater conveniences for customers in payment of hospital services. Faster transaction time and reduce queuing time as payment process becomes simple and faster. Conclusion: The current cash handling activities are manual and labour intensive. The management fees payable to CIT vendor is correspondingly high. Digital payment helps to reduce cost by removing intermediaries which includes service of CIT vendor and manpower associated with cash and float management, reconciliation of cash transactions and reporting. Payment of hospital bill becomes simple via internet, mobile banking and taping or scanning of card or mobile device. This is in-line with Government??s vision to make Singapore a smart nation.
