Abstract:

Biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, medical device, and dietary supplement manufacturers face many cleaning issues within a highly regulated and challenging environment. Biofilm can represent a significant challenge to a manufacturer??s cleaning and disinfection regiment. This presentation will explain some of the concepts regarding biofilm formation, as well as offer remediation strategies to reduce or eliminate the biofilm. We will explore what a biofilm is and some of the characteristics of a biofilm, and the relationship between surface characteristics and biofilm formation. We will also look at where biofilms can form and the potential risk to manufacturing processes. Lastly, we will examine case studies and data that has been generated to show which method of biofilm remediation is the most effective in the pharmaceutical manufacturing setting.
