Abstract:

Thespesia populnea (linn) (Malvaceae) was described in Ayurveda for the treatment of various diseases like diabetes and inflammation; the aim of present research is to study anti-inflammatory activity of modified compound with possible mechanism of action. The compound were isolated from the hexane extract by silica gel column chromatography then modified, and characterized for further studied in anti-inflammatory activity. The anti-inflammatory activity of modified compound was evaluated using carageenan induced mouse ear edema and in-vitro cyclooxygenase COX-1 and COX-2 inhibitory assay was determined. The modified compound shows significant and dose dependent anti-inflammatory activity in an acute inflammation model. The results suggest that the modified compound possesses promising anti-inflammatory activity, which is possibly mediated through inhibition of COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. The study supports traditional claim, use of modified compound for inflammatory diseases.

Biography :

Mohini A Phanse has completed his M Pharm in Pharmacognosy at the age of 23 years in 2008 from Pune University and is now appearing for PHD at JNTU University, Hyderabad. She is currently working at Modern College of Pharmacy, Nigdi, Pune. She has published more than 17 papers in reputed journals.
