Abstract:

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare malignant vascular tumor that develops from vascular endothelial or pre-endothelial cells. It was initially described as a bronchoalveolar cell carcinoma of the lung. Subsequently, it was named “epithelioid hemangioendothelioma” due to its overlapping features between a hemangioma and an angiosarcoma. It can occur at a wide variety of sites but Central Nervous System (CNS) involvement is extremely rare and only accounts for less than 0.02% of all brain tumors. In the literature, there 48 cases of EHE, among the 48 cases, there was 7 cases in the posterior fossa and only one case reported by Tammam et al in cerebellopontine angle (CPA). This presentation reports an extremely rare case of EHE arising in the CPA in a 53-year-old gentleman, review the tumors that arise in CPA and the literature on the clinical course and management of EHE and discuss the steps of the Translabyrinthine approach.
