T he evolution of new technology has led to exponential changes in the conceptualization of clinical applications for the regeneration of lost tissues to resolve periodontal defects and problems associated with the placement dental implants. Contemporary periodontics, has witnesses the continued emergence of sophisticated surgical techniques for the management of such problems. Several procedures have been reported to be successful, including: ? Gingival augmentation and root coverage surgery ? Atraumatic tooth extraction, socket preservation and ridge augmentation ? Surgery for maxillary sinus elevation ? Surgery for accelerated orthodontic tooth movement In this presentation, some of these procedures will be illustrated. Operative and post operative clinical problems and complications will also be presented and discussed. Learning objectives ? Nabil F. Bissada is Professor and Chair of the Department of Periodontics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland Ohio. He is the Director of the Postdoctoral Graduate Program in Periodontics at the School of Dental Medicine and also maintains a private practice in Cleveland Ohio. In addition to his BDS degree from Cairo University and DDS degree from Case Western Reserve University, he has MSD degree in Periodontics and also has a certificate in Oral Medicine and Oral Diagnosis from the University of Minnesota. He has authored and coauthored over 120 articles published in various peered journals and has lectured extensively at local National and International levels. His expertise is in prevention and treatment of periodontal diseases. He also published numerous articles related to the link between periodontal diseases and systemic health in medical and dental journals.
