Description

Pre-cycling is much common with reductions and it is the avoidance of additional waste before it is generated. This is the most basic level of savings, but it has a more technical eye than simply buying less than usual. Pre-cycling is the recognition of the entire cycle of waste production. Recognizing the strictest recycling and reductions, normal day-to-day operations will produce large amounts of waste, people who are trying to recycle are doing their best to buy and consume as many recyclable products as possible while incorporating all three R’s into their lifestyle.

Difference between recycling and pre-cycling

Recycling and Pre-cycling are both sides of the same coin, not two conflicting ideas. The process of turning recyclable product into new products for sale is called recycling. Proper recycling is inseparable from ensuring the proper separation of waste. Strategies such as reduction, reuse, recycling, purchasing recycled products, avoiding products packaged in other people's packages, and supporting sustainable brands by incorporating them into everyday life with the aim of creating more sustainable world should be avoided.

Pre-cycling can play an important role in creating more sustainable world and the benefits of pre-cycling are:

Avoid future waste

According to data collected by the EPA in 2018, the average person in the United States produces 4.9 pounds of waste daily. It is estimated that 292.4 million tons of waste is generated in that, approximately 146.1 million tons will eventually be reclaimed. Techniques such as reuse, recycling, recycling and composting are surprisingly effective and cannot solve all waste problems. By recycling in advance, people can reduce the amount of waste that is landfilled each year.

Avoiding future greenhouse gas emissions

Manufacturing a product requires a lot of energy. Take a plastic water bottle as an example. The plastic is recyclable, but it is mainly composed of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and requires fossil fuels to manufacture. By reducing this dependence and consumption of plastics we are actually reducing the use of fossil fuels.

Avoiding excessive reliance on recycling

Recycling is not free, in terms of waste reduction; this is actually a last resort and a costly process to avoid. Many countries, including United States, export most of their recycling because effective recycling requires machinery, labor and storage space. Shipping tons of plastic worldwide produces large amounts of emissions which are avoided by practices such as pre-cycling.

Three environmental strategies of pre-cycling

It is easy to implement pre-cycling techniques in society. It is very broad concept and there are small things that can start changes when people are planning bigger changes for the future.

Eliminate potential waste with reusable materials: Reusable items are much more environmental friendly than disposable items when used frequently. Try packing reusable items in your car, bag or backpack. Easy-to-use and reusable zero waste items include bags, thermos bottles, cutlery and coffee containers. Other reusable materials that people may not have thought of are electronic devices that are used to read and reduce the energy used to make and dispose of things like newspapers and books.

The local grocery store has a large section. Consider bringing and packing reusable shopping bags and Public Goods promotes the reuse of containers containing products such as shampoo refills and surface cleaner refill kits to reduce wasted packaging.

Used products: Using old and used products reduce the product manufacturing cost, For example buying used laptop saves energy, materials, and costs associated with manufacturing another laptop. The same applies to borrow and share with friends and family. Few new products have to be produced for a better environment and for a sustainable world, pre-cycling is a big part of creating and maintaining a sustainable world for humankind and it is more than recycling and reuse; reducing waste and energy consumption before it occurs, making it as one of the most effective tools in the fight against climatic changes with many different types of pre-cycling, there is no reason to incorporate some form of pre-cycling into daily life.
