Biography

Zhenglin Gu is a research fellow at NIEHS in the Laboratory of Neurobiology. He is studying how information from extrinsic neuromodulator systems is processed and integrated into local networks using combined molecular, electrophysiological, optogenetic, and functional imaging approaches. During his graduate training with Professor Guangyi Zhang in China, he studied the roles of signaling molecules in stroke pathology using biochemical and molecular approaches. After that, he joined in Dr. Zhen Yans laboratory at the State University of New York at Buffalo as a postdoctoral fellow for electrophysiological training to more directly examine neuronal functions under physiological and pathological conditions. He learned how neuromodulator systems are important for maintaining cognitive functions and how their dysfunctions contribute to the development of various neurological diseases.
