Biography

William K. Chan received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UCSF in 1986. He then received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from UCSF in 1991. After that, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Environmental Toxicology at University of California, Davis for one year. Then, he spent the next four years as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Biological Chemistry at Northwestern University Medical School. In 1996, he became assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Medicinal Chemistry under The Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy & Health Sciences at University of the Pacific, became associate professor in 2002, and has been full professor since 2007. Since 1993, he has been working on the signaling mechanisms of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor and the hypoxia inducible factor-1α. His research focuses on the understanding of the molecular mechanism for rational drug design. He is conducting NIH funded research since 1999. He has authored many articles as author and co- author. He is active member of many research committees and research associations.
