Biography

Dr. Sunitha Kogenaru carried out her Ph. D. work, at German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), and received the degree from Heidelberg Medical School, University of Heidelberg, Germany, in the year 2011. Subsequently, she did a two year postdoctoral training at Department of Microbiology and Cell Science, University of Florida, where she employed bioinformatics approaches to understand the citrus infecting bacteria, and developed a PCR-based detection system for identification of phyto-pathogenic bacteria. She is currently working as a junior faculty at the School of Medicine, University of Michigan, where she employs applied systems biology concepts to understand disease causing mechanisms.

Research Interest

Application of bioinformatics approaches in analyzing genomic and next-generation transcriptome sequencing data in understanding the disease causing mechanisms in various model and non-model organisms including bacteria.
