Biography

Professor Stephen Richmond Born in Liverpool, gained dental degree in Sheffield (1979) followed by an orthodontic specialist training qualification in Cardiff (1984). Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the University of Manchester (1985 – 1993) and attained doctorate in relation to quantifying orthodontic treatment need and outcome (standards) in the General Dental Services in England and Wales. Moved back to Cardiff in 1993 and currently Head of Applied Clinical Research and Public Health. Best known for developing and implementing the use of the PAR, IOTN and ICON indices and assessing the cost-effectiveness of orthodontic treatment. Recently studies have focused on three-dimensional facial growth and growth prediction (12-17 yr olds) in different population groups and the influence of environment and genetics on face shape. Recent research grants exceed $3 million supported by over 200 publications.
