Biography

Dr Liu received PhD degree in Plant Molecular Genetics from the University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign UIUC in 1994 Her postdoctoral research focused in biotechnology and genetic engineering Dr Liu has been a research molecular biologist at USDAARSNCAUR since 2002 Dr Liu has been recognized for genetic manipulations of Grampositive lactic acid bacteria for conversion of biomass to biofuels and valueadded products The Gram positive promoter shuttle vectors and strains constructed by Dr Liu were sought after by peers outside ARS including South Korea Netherlands and China resulting in 12 Material Transfer Agreements Dr Liu has authored and coauthored more than 45 publications and more than 40 presentations including invited presentations in Czech Republic Taiwan and Melbourne Australia Dr Liu has authored and coauthored three invited book chapters one pending US patent Dr Liu served as adhoc proposal reviewer for the New Directions Research Program of The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs OMAFRA for The Consortium for Plant Biotechnology Research CPBR and for Ohio Plant Biotechnology Consortium OPBC Dr Liu served as Merit Review Panel for DOE bioenergy proposals Dr Liu also served as reviewer of numerous peerreviewed journals in the area of biotechnology molecular biology and genetic engineering

Genetic and metabolic engineering approaches to develop microbial biocatalysts for biochemical conversion of biomass to biofuels.
