Biography

Dr. Toru Shizuma worked as medical intern at St. Luke’s International Hospital (Tokyo, Japan). He earned his PhD at Tokyo Women’s Medical College (Tokyo, Japan) in 1998 and worked as a clinician and assistant professor at Department of Gastroenterology, International University of Health and Welfare Hospital (Tochigi, Japan) from 2007 to 2009. He holds the position of associate professor at Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, and Department of Bio-Medical Engineering, School of Engineering, Tokai University (Kanagawa, Japan) from 2012 to date. His research interests include gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition in both clinical and experimental medicine. Through his research and fellowship training, Dr. Shizuma has received several awards, including the 2003 Japanese Society of Gastroenterology Prize—Encouragement Award, and 2014 Japanese Society for Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition Prize- Society’s Award.

Gastroenterology, Hepatology
His research interests also includes nutrition in both clinical and experimental medicine.
He has received several awards, including the 2003 Japanese Society of Gastroenterology Prize—Encouragement Award.
