He started his career as lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1976 and became Professor in Chemistry in 1996. He was awarded Fulbright-Hays pre-doctoral grant in 1976. He worked in number of interdisciplinary fields like natural product chemistry (1973-1979), synthetic organic chemistry (1979-1984), synthetic inorganic chemistry (1974-1977) and development of new technologies for industrial applications (1980-2000). He also worked on a World Bank ACOP (Alluvial canal observation project) in 1975. Moreover, he worked on micronutrient fertilizers and applied them to the growth of Piper betel (Paan) and Saffron in Karachi. During the development of new technologies for industrial applications, he developed eighteen (16) new technologies, out of which five (5) have been patented by Government of Pakistan.
