Biography

Dr. Ruma Purkait is an anthropologist with interest in diverse fields of anthropology. Born and educated in Delhi, the capital of India she completed her masters in Anthropology and doctorate in Forensic Anthropology in Delhi University. Working in the field of ‘Ear Biometrics’ she had submitted her thesis at Dr. H.S. Gour University situated in Central India and was awarded the degree of Doctorate of Science in 2015.  Three instruments devised by her have been granted Patent rights by Government of India. She is recipient of international and national awards, including Young Investigator’s award by International Association of Forensic Sciences in 1996, University Grant Commission Research Award in 2004 and V.B. Sahai Award by Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine 2001.  She has several research papers published in various international and national journals. New measurements devised by her for determining sex from fragmentary bones are followed and tested in various parts of world.
