Biography

Dr Maria Laura Colombo is working as an Assosiate Professor of Medicinal Plant Biology at University of Turin, Italy. She is also Vice President of Herbal Techniques Degree at University of Turin. She is associated with Poison Center Niguarda Hospital, Milan, Italian Ministry of Health, in the Dietetic and Nutrition Committee for the evaluation of the Food, Functional foods, Food supplements and Novel food safety and Surveillance System of suspected adverse reactions to natural products as Botanist scientific consultant. She co-operates with Scientific Responsible Workgroup “Plant extracts” inside the “Cosmetic products and personal hygiene” of the Italian Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Handicraft since 1999.She also published many articles in international journals.

Research Interest

Ethnobotany knowledge, Toxic Higher Plant identification, Macro and microscopic plant drug analysis (Light and Fluorescence Microscopy). Chemical and physiological aspects of secondary metabolites, High Performance Liquid Chromatography methods development for the analysis of alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, as well as in vitro higher plants cultivation related to the production of secondary compounds. Toxicology and Clinical Pharmacology of natural products.
