Biography

Dr. Karina Yazdanbakhsh is an Associate Member and Head of Laboratory of Complement Biology at the New York Blood Center. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Master’s degree in Microbiology from University of London. She did her PhD at the National Institute for Medical Research, Mill Hill, UK under the supervision of Dr. Frank Grosveld in molecular biology.

Research Interest

The research in my laboratory involves mostly patient-orientated translational studies to develop a detailed understanding of the immune pathophysiology of hematological disorders including autoimmune cytopenias andhemoglobinopathies. Another focus is to understand adverse complications of transfusion.Our goal is to identify immune biomarkers of the disease and develop therapeutic strategies that target the defective immune system and corrects them.
