Biography

After completing his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the State University of New York Downstate Kings County Hospital Center in 1974 he taught and practiced the fullscope of the specialty at Washington University St Louis Missouri. He became board certified in 1978, He came to Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1981 to continue his academic career as director of undergraduate oral and maxillofacial surgery and have held that position for 30 years. Funded research includes the areas of implant dentistry and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs. Other areas investigated are clinical issues of bacterimia resulting from suture removal effects of third molar surgery on gingival and plaque indicies and pain relief for localized osteitis. He received training in microsurgery in 2009 and have since limited his clinical practice to managing peripheral trigeminal nerve injuries. He is presently engaged in active clinical research in the field of traumatic trigeminal nerve injury.
