Biography

Gianluca Montanari Vergallo is a tenured assistant professor of Legal Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine, “Sapienza” University of Rome. He graduated in law cum laude in the year of 2000. He specialized in medical liability in 2001 (Institute of Legal Medicine, “Sapienza” University of Rome), insurance law in 2004 (European School of Economics of Rome) and criminal law and procedure in 2007 (Institute of Criminal Law, “Sapienza” University of Rome). In 2005 he received PhD in Health Sciences – Legal Medicine at the Department of Public Health, University of Rome “Sapienza”. Since 2005 he teaches legal medicine and medical ethics. He worked as a lawyer from 2004 to 2008 in the civil and penal field. His research addresses issues related to civil and criminal medical responsibility, causal connection, negligence, informed consent, patient’s rights, assisted reproduction, abortion, research on human subjects, euthanasia, advance directives, palliative care and biological damage.
