Biography

Associate Professor (since 2014) and Coordinator of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Programmes in Chemical Engineering at the Department of Environmental and Chemical Engineering – University of Calabria. Research Associate at the Institute on Membrane Technology-National Research Council of Italy (ITM-CNR). Co-author of 96 papers on peer-reviewed international journals (h-Index: 29, Citations>2900 by Scopus), 3 books edited by Elsevier (English/Chinese), Imperial College Press and De Gruyter, 6 book chapters, >150 publications on congress proceedings prevalently international, 1 patent. Twenty years of experience in design and development of advanced membrane contactors including Membrane Distillation/Crystallization for biotechnological applications, Integrated Membrane Processes for desalination and wastewater treatment, membrane systems for energy conversion (salinity gradient power). European Membrane Society Award 2004 for the best published paper in Membrane Science and Engineering.

Research Interest

Integrated Membrane Systems (pressure-driven membrane operations/membrane contactors) for applications to water treatment, seawater desalination, energy production (salinity gradient power); Design of membrane crystallization systems for heterogeneous nucleation of molecules on polymeric surfaces, polymorphism control in API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), enantio-selective crystallization; Design of membrane bioreactors for applications in Tissue Engineering: study of metabolic kinetics and transport of nutrients in cellular cultures.
