Biography

Chandrashekhar Joshi is a professor of plant molecular genetics in School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science SFRES at Michigan Technological University in Houghton Michigan USA He has recently joined World Class university program at Chonnam National University in Korea as a Distinguished Visiting Professor His current research focuses on cell wall development in trees with particular emphasis on improved bioenergy production Dr Joshi has recently served as the Director of the Biotechnology Research Center at Michigan Tech and also as the Director of graduate programs at SFRES He is involved in substantial extramural research funded by national and international agencies He has coauthored 90 presentations published 65 papers in peerreviewed journals/books and served on 45 graduate student committees He is also a recipient of NSF’s CAREER award and inductee of Academic of Teaching Excellence at Michigan Tech He has served on five NSF USDA and DOE review panels reviewed over 50 papers for 20 international journals and evaluated over 100 grant proposals during last five years Dr Joshi owns three approved patents related cellulose synthesis for improved cellulose and reduced lignin production in bioenergy trees and is currently coediting two books on poplar genomics and other bioenergy crops

Research Interest

Molecular genetics and genomics of cellulose and lignin biosynthesis, Genetic improvements of lignocellulosic products for bioenergy industries and Development of fast growing bioenergy trees for efficient cell wall deconstruction to biofuels.
