Biography

Dr. Cecilia H. Marzabadi received her Bachelor’s degrees (Chemistry and Biology) and Masters degree (Chemistry) from Saint Louis University She earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. Her doctoral research examined the preparation and reactions of glucal halohydrins. Dr. Marzabadi did post-doctoral research at Hunter College/CUNY under the direction of Professor Richard Franck. Her post-doc project looked at the synthesis of 2-deoxysugars using a cycloaddition/ring opening based approach. In 1999, she was appointed as a Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor in chemistry at Seton Hall University. She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005.  In 2006, she was a Visiting Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School in the lab of Dr. Dennis Kasper studying the innate immunology of a novel class of zwitterionic saccharide. Dr. Marzabadi has been the Associate Chair and Director of Graduate Studies for her department at Seton Hall since 2009.

Research Interest

Synthetic carbohydrate chemistry; medicinal chemistry; conformational analysis of carbohydrates; recruitment and retention of women in STEM disciplines.
