Biography

Dr. Baojian Wu is presently postdoctoral associate in biochemistry,Baylor College of Medicine. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics from Fudan University, China, and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from University of Houston, TX. He has been working in the pharmaceutical areas and published over 30 papers in respected upper tier journals such as Molecular Pharmaceutics, Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Research, European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics, Drug Metabolism Reviews,Current Drug Metabolism etc. Dr. Wu is interested in developing techniques to study the interactions of small substrate molecules with the protein of interest (e.g.,metabolic enzymes, transporters,or drug receptors)at the molecular level, and to quantify the relationships of drugs (and other xenobiotics)’ chemical structures and their ADME/T properties. He has elucidated the molecular basis for glucuronidation of phenolics by UGT1A9 (an important UGT isoenzyme) via a combined use of ligand- and structure-based approaches. Dr. Wu is an expert in pharmacokinetics. His recent research works based on pharmacokinetic modeling/simulations have helped understand the intricate relationships among phase II enzymes, efflux transporters, and/or bacterial β-glucuronidase.His current research interest is to elucidate the mechanisms of drug action and the roles of nuclear receptors (and their co-regulators) on the regulation of transporters and enzymes using the proteomic approach.
