Biography

Asija Zaciragic is presently an Assistant Professor at Department of Human Physiology, Faculty of Medicine University of Sarajevo. Dr. Začiragić received her M.D. at the School of Medicine University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2001. She was awarded by Dean’s Office for excellence in performance during study years. She finished postgraduate studies in experimental-laboratory medicine in 2005. She received her MSc degree in 2006. The title of her master thesis was “Comparative assessment of serum C-reactive protein concentration in patients with diabetes mellitus type 1 and type 2”. She completed specialization in clinical immunology in 2008. She defended her PhD thesis under the title “An assessment of correlation between asymmetric dimethylarginine and C-reactive protein concentration in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus” in 2011. Dr Zaciragic completed post-doctoral studies from August 2014 until June 2015 at Erasmus University Medical Centre Rotterdam, the Netherlands within ErasmusAGE Rotterdam Intergenerational Aging Research Centre. Main subject of Dr Zaciragic’s post-doctoral training was Healthy Aging.

Research Interest

Fields of inflammatory markers, Markers of endothelial dysfunction, Markers of oxidative stress in pathophysiology of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, Alzheimer’s disease, Basic and clinical immunology, and Cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology.
