Biography
Viswanathan Natarajan translational research scientist and the overall goal of his research is to understand molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways that mediate lung inflammation and injury and develop novel therapeutic agents to ameliorate pulmonary leak, lung edema, and restore barrier integrity. He has trained more than 30 post-doctoral and pulmonary fellows in my laboratory in the past 20 years
Research Interest
Research interest in pathophysiology of several respiratory diseases including ARDS, COPD, pulmonary hypertension and bronchopulmonary dysplasia and his current primary focus is on the role and regulation of NADPH oxidase and NOX proteins in hyperoxia and sepsis-induced lung injury. His investigations suggest a role of intracellular S1P in lung inflammation, injury, cell motility and NADPH oxidase dependent ROS production. More recently, he has investigated the role of HATS and HDACs in Mesothelioma and the potential regulation of HATs/HDACs by sphingosine kinases and S1P lyase..
