Swaranjit Singh Cameotra
Biography
Dr. Swaranjit Singh Cameotra is an active scientist who has made significant contributions in the field of Environmental Biotechnology, Nanotech and Biosurfactant production. During his Ph. D. he elucidated the mechanism of Petroleum Hydrocarbons uptake / utilization by bacterial and yeast strains. He joined MTCC-IMTECH in 1987 and helped in the development of MTCC that is now an International Depository Authority(IDA). Publications are in High Impact Factor Journals and the articles are highly cited in the literature. His group has demonstrated the potential applications of microbial biosurfactants in Biomedical, biological and immunological fields. Using inexpensive and unconventional substrates like molasses Biosurfactant synthesis in thermophilic, mesophilic and psychrophilic conditions was reported. He have good publications on the bioremediation of toxic pollutants viz. Petroleum sludge, Pesticides and Heavy Metals. He have guided 7 Ph. D. students and am currently supervising 7 students for their Ph. D. He completed the CSIR Leadership Development Programme LDP08-02, Hewas awarded the DBT Associateship 1999 to the PennState and INSA-JSPS 2005 to the Kobe University to work in the field of Environmental Biotechnology. In September 2009 He was deputed to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany for the Indo-German Collaborative Project on Bioremediation of Metalloids.
Research Interest
working in the direction of technology development in bioremediation of toxic hydrophobic compounds. Biodiversity and its application is another area we would like to explore. In our lab we have isolated and characterized two novel species from the coal fields of Asansol in West Bengal. Transfer of the technology of Biosurfactant applications.
