Biography
Sotnikov O.S. is Professor, Honored Scientist of Russia, B.I. Lavrentiev Prize-Winner Academy of Medical Sciences. He works at the Institute of Physiology of the I.P. Pavlov Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation by head of laboratory of functional morphology and physiology of the neuron. He was borned in 1936. By profession he is a physician. Scientific work he begain as a student in 1954. Premier their teachers he consides Professors B.I. Lavrentiev and A.S. Dogiel, which are the founders vital neurocitology in Russia, and cytologist Professor D.N. Nasonov. All independent scientific work he in 1954 dedicated striving to transform static Neuromorphological structures in the science of structural kinetics of living processes in the nervous system. In the former publicated of the monograph - "Functional morphology of living myelin nerve fiber" (1976, Rus.) for the first time he showed the dynamics of a new class of neuron-glial interactions between living axons and the Schwann glia with help aqueous fraction of axoplasm. The second monograph was devoted to the "Structural dynamics of living neuron" (1985, Rus.), where for the first time he described the whole complex of vital structural neurocyte related reactions from his body to the nerve terminals. In the next book "The mechanisms of structural plasticity of neurons and phylogeny of the nervous system" (1994, Rus.) it was reproduced by means the culture of single neurons in primitive mollusks plexsus-ganglion nervous system, demonstrating phylogenetic mechanisms of morphogenesis of living neurons. Next monograph was devoted of the "Statics and structural kinetics of living asynaptic dendrites" (2008, Rus.). This paper analyzes the previously unknown free dendrites, including terminals of the sensory brain. This suggested similarities of cerebral innervation structure with other organs having cavity. The book "Syncytial cytoplasmic connection and fusion of neurons" (2013, Rus.), shows that in the nervous system in addition to chemical synapses and electrical contacts is a third type of interneurons relations - syncytia that gap junction pores, syncytial perforations and the formation of binuclear neurons are not individual morphological structures, but single stage of the neurilemmal restructuring process of living neurons. The chapter in the "Biomedical Tissue culture" (Intech, 2013) in English, published and two chapters in the book "Axons" about of simultaneous currents axoplasm in opposite directions and the reasons why the hypotonic medium only the myelin fibers no swell. Now preparing for publication the monograph "The properties of living axoplasm" about unexplored mysterious non-electric features live axoplasm as only whole formation. The book presents new uncertain approaches to medical methods using the axoplasm properties for prevent diastasis after transection of the axon, therapy damages of the neurons by increasing the colloid osmotic pressure and of axoplasmic determination of the mechanisms of axoplasm rapid disappearance and reappearance of the apical dendrites of hippocampus under stress.
Research Interest
The area of my research is in transform static Neuromorphological structures in the science of structural kinetics of living moving nerve morphological changes (of processes) of the nervous system. Dynamics of live neurons is significantly different from the picture of the dead, fixed structures. This is the theme of my research These processes occur in normal and pathological neuronal beginning.
