Research Interest
Dr. G. J. Schaaf has a stem cell biology training with specific interest in stem cell self-renewal and cell fate choice. In his previous work he identified genes/pathways that modulate transformation of myogenic cells into rhabdomyosarcoma tumor cells. Since 2008 his research focuses on healthy muscle stem cells and their behavior in vitro and in vivo. Since 2012 Dr. Schaaf is involved in the Erasmus MC Center for Lysosomal and Metabolic Diseases (Dept. of Pediatrics) and focuses on mechanisms of muscle regeneration in Pompe disease.
