Biography
Dr. Robert W. Maitta obtained his PhD in the department of Microbiology and Immunology of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which also awarded his MD. In addition, he has two Master degrees awarded from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the City College of New York. He is currently Assistant Professor Pathology at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Assistant Medical Director of Transfusion Medicine, Apheresis Center and Blood Bank at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio. His research interests include the role of immature platelets in thrombocytopenias, specifically TTP; He is also interested in the role of alpha-synuclein in hematology and the immune system; transfusion reactions prevention and prevalence; sickle cell alloimmunization; and new test platform development. He is an expert reviewer for journals such as British Journal of Haematology, Transfusion, Vox Sanguinis, Transfusion and Apheresis Science among others. He has authored over 15 research articles and book chapters. He is a member of AABB, American Society for Apheresis and American Society for Clinical Pathology.
