Research Interest
Vaccine Development to Control Streptococcal Infections: The human pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes, commonly referred to as group A streptococcus (GAS), causes severe autoimmune diseases such as post-infectious sequelae-rheumatic fever (RF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD). The development of a group A streptococcal (GAS) vaccine has focused on the M protein, a major virulence factor. Antibodies against the amino terminal domain of the M protein are generally protective but only provide type-specific immunity.
