Michael Berk is a Professor and currently appointed to the Chair of Psychiatry for Barwon Health and The Geelong Clinic at The University of Melbourne.

Biography
Professor Michael Berk is currently appointed to the Chair of Psychiatry for Barwon Health and The Geelong Clinic at The University of Melbourne. He also is an Honorary Professorial Research fellow at the Mental Health Research Institute, and leads the first episode bipolar program at Orygen Youth Health. He has published over 250 papers on a range of topics with his research interests focusing on mood and psychotic disorders, particularly bipolar disorder and depression. He is Chairman of the International Society of Bipolar Disorders, and Vice Chairman of the Australasian Society of Bipolar Disorders. He is a committee member of both the Collegium Internationale Psychopharmacologicum and World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry is a member of a number of international advisory boards. He was the founding editor of The Journal of Depression and Anxiety, has served as guest editor or is on the editorial board of 12 other journals as well as being a reviewer of 30 journals. He finished his education in PhD from University of Pretoria 1994 and MMed(Psych) from University of Witwatersrand 1989 and MB BCh, University of Witwatersrand 1982. He worked as Senior Principal Research Fellow in National Health and Medical Research Council,Australia from Jan 2014–Jan 2015,Professor of Psychiatry Barwon Health,Australia,Geelong from Dec 2013–present and Alfred Deakin Professor and head, IMPACT Strategic Research Centre in Deakin University Australia,Geelong from Jan 2011–Jan 2013. He is also working as a Professor (Full),Mental Health Research Institute Australia,Melbourne from Jan 2011–present and as a Professorial Research Fellow in The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health,Australia, Melbourne from Jan 2002–present and as a Professor (Full) Orygen Youth Health in Australia,Parkerville from Jan 2002–present. He is a member in nternational Society for Bipolar Disorders,President 2008 -Australasian Society for Bipolar Disorders. Member 2007 -Australian Medical Association - Victoria.
