Biography
He is awarded Ph.D., Water Resources Systems, Cornell University, Jan 1981. He holds a Master Degree (MSc) in Water Resources Management, UW-Madison, May 1972, followed by a Degree B.S., Civil Engieering, SUNY at Buffalo, May 1966, and B.A., Geology, SUNY at Buffalo, May 1966. During his academic and professional practice career Dr. Johnson has conducted a wide variety of hydrologic and water resources investigations on river basin and coastal flooding, flood plain management, water quality modeling of river systems, environmental impacts assessment and engineering economic evaluations of various kinds. He performed twenty-seven years as Professor of Civil Engineering (Water Resources and Geographic Information Systems) at the University of Colorado Denver. During that tenure he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in water resources systems planning and management, hydrology, water and wastewater systems design, GIS, and environmental engineering. He now holds a joint research appointment at Colorado State University and the NOAA-ESRL Water Cycle Branch where his focus is on watershed hydrological modeling, flood forecasting using radar-rainfall imagery, river system operations for flood control and water supply, and water resources decision support systems.
