Ling Yun Sun

Biography

Dr Sun is currently Professor and Director of Rheumatology Department at The Affiliated Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School. After his medical training, he obtained MD and PhD from Nanjing Medical University. In 1994, he went to University of Ferrara in Italy for rheumatology training. He conducted research in stem cell transplantation at University of Sheffield in UK in 2004. In 1996, he became Associate Professor and Director of Rheumatology Department and later Professor since 2000.His research interest focuses on stem cell therapeutic application in autoimmune diseases particularly in lupus. During recent years, he has been extensively studying mesenchymal stem cells and lupus. Since 2007, his team has treated more than 700 patients with lupus and other autoimmune diseases using allogenic mesenchymal stem cell transplantation. Dr Sun has published 340 papers in peer-reviewed Chinese and international journals. He is now the vice-president of Chinese Medical Doctor Association Rheumatology & Immunology Branch.
