Biography

Kenneth M. Sakauye, M.D is an Professor and Co-Chair in Department of Psychiatry in University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center College of Medicine, USA. He is a graduate of the University of Chicago (BA and MD), and completed his Psychiatric Residency at Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago. He has been on the Board and local advisory groups within the Louisiana Alzheimer's Association Chapter and the Mid-South Alzheimer's Association Chapter. He has held numerous leadership positions in the field of geriatric psychiatry, including Professor of Psychiatry at LSU and Head of a Geriatric Psychiatry Teaching Consortium for Geriatric Psychiatry in New Orleans, Chair of the American Psychiatric Association's Council on Aging; Chair of the Task Force and Committee on Ethnic Minority Elderly; past Board member and Secretary Treasurer of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry and Co-Chair of its Disaster Task Force. He has been a member of the Committee on Subspecialty Certification in Geriatric Psychiatry for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry Committee on Aging, review committees for NIH (National Institute of Health), NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health), AOA (Administration on Aging), and Alzheimer's Association; and associate editorships and reviewer for several professional publications. Among his awards, Dr. Sakauye won the A.A. Goldsmith Award from the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago for humanitarianism, listings in "Best Doctors in America," "Best Doctors in the South and Southwest, Distinguished Life Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association, and a recipient of its Jack Weinberg Award for achievements in the field of Geriatric Psychiatry.
