Karl Peltzer is a Professor and research director in the HIV/AIDS, STIs and TB (HAST) research programme of the HSRC.

Biography
Karl Peltzer is a Professor and research director in the HIV/AIDS, STIs and TB (HAST) research programme of the HSRC Pretoria South Africa and also a faculty member in Department of Psychology, University of Limpopo, Turfloop, South Africa.He obtained a Dr.habil in health psychology at the University of Klagenfurt, a PhD in social health psychology at the University of Hannover, and an MA in clinical psychology at the University of Bremen. He is a prevention researcher and evaluator with over 20 years of experience in the study of health promotion, risk behaviour and disease prevention, and socio-behavioural interventions. He has also worked in the public health subject areas of alcohol, tobacco, cancer, tuberculosis and HIV control, nutrition, physical activity, hypertension, mental health, injury and violence prevention, and on health systems.
Research Interest
His specific areas of research expertise include psychology applied to health in Africa, health promotion, chronic lifestyle diseases, substance use, communicable diseases such as HIV, injuries, cultural health practices, and programme evaluation.
