Biography
James Shiells earned his bachelor of science in physics from University of Missouri in 1966. He then began his long career with the Army’s Ballistic Research Laboratory (BRL). Early on he was involved in various programs directed toward reducing the vulnerability of Army assets in hostile environments. Later he earned a master of science degree from the University of Michigan in computer aided design (CAD-E). When he returned to the BRL he worked to develop 3- dimensional modeling techniques which were used to describe Army vehicles. During this time he received various awards, patents and authored a number of scientific reports. Since his retirement he has taken an interest in Egyptian archaeology. In fact it was this late endeavor which prompted him to write the research article about the obelisk. James makes his home in Edgewood, Maryland, USA.
