Research interests & activities
Eric investigated the genome and temporal transcription patterns of the Lactobacillus gasseri bacteriophage phi adh in his doctoral work. He took up a Post Doctoral Fellowship with Prof Todd Klaenhammer at North Carolina State University studying the S-layer and stress response in Lactobacillus gasseri. In 2003 Eric accepted a position as Senior Research Scientist and worked on the Lactobacillus acidophilus genome sequencing programme. In 2006 he joined AgResearch where he leads the microbial genomics objective in the ruminant methane mitigation programme, developing software for the functional and comparative analyses of rumen methanogen genomes. Since 2009 Eric has been an Associate Investigator at the Riddet Institute, investigating the effects of lactobacilli on human health. Recently, he became interested in a nanobeads platform for methane mitigation and high value food additives.
