Biography
Dr. Claudio Poggio is graduated in Medicine-Cum Laude on July 14th, 1978 at University of Pavia Medical School (Italy), Specialist in General Dentistry in 1981 and Specialist in Hygiene and Preventive Medecine in 1994. In the same University he was Resident from 1981 to 1982, Contract Professor from 1983 to 1995 and Researcher from 1996 to 2002. He has full-time position of Associate Professor at University of Pavia (Department of Operative Dentistry and Endodontics) from 2002 to present. He is author of more than 150 scientific publications in various international and national peer-reviewed journals and is coauthor four books.
Research Interest
His research area includes Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics: dentin/enamel erosion (AFM/SEM morphological analysis), development of dentine bonding agents (microleakage, antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity), fluoride release and uptake of conventional glass ionomer cements, evolution of composite resins (microleakage, surface roughness, color stability and Vickers hardness), solubility of root-canal sealers and root-end-filling materials, evaluation of biocompatibility of dental materials, evolution of endodontic instruments (ultrasonic and rotary NiTi instruments: investigation of their effect on morphology of dentine with SEM), antibacterial activity of irrigating solutions, decalcifying effect of EDTA solutions, development of root canal-post systems.
