Biography
Prof. Benno von Bormann, *18.03.1945, has received his PhD 1981 at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University, Frankfurt/M (Germany) and 1986 his Professor for Anesthesiology at the Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen (Germany). Between 1988 and 2010 he was the head of the Department of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Pain Therapy and Transfusion Medicine at the Catholic Clinic Centre (now Helios Clinic Duisburg), Duisburg (Germany). Von Bormann is currently working as Scientific Instructor, Department of Anesthesiology, Siriraj-Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. His research has included perioperative stress response, metabolism of the antidiuretic hormone (ADH), physiology of pain, permissive anemia, pure oxygen ventilation and perioperative hemodynamics under various conditions. He has received several awards and honors, such as Sertürner Prize, 25.10.1985: ‘Calcium channel blocker Nimodipine reduces pain perception and opiate consumption in cardiac patients and in animals – clinical and experimental study.’ Prize of the German Society for Pain Therapy, 1.12.1989: ‘Transdermal fentanyl for postoperative pain control.’ He has authored > 200 research articles/books. He is a member of the professional association of German Anesthesiologists. Benno von Bormann is serving as an editorial member of the Thai Journal of Anesthesiology. Current scientific projects are ‘Red cell transfusion and immune modulation’; ‘The effect of pure oxygen ventilation on mitochondrial function of immune competent CD-cells’; ‘Intraoperative routine relaxation and respiratory outcome’; ‘Alternative concepts for postoperative pain control’; Implementing standard operating procedures (SOP) in a Thai University Clinic’.
